To access any NSFW server on the Discord iOS app, all users 18+ must opt-in to seeing such content in their personal settings. This measure protects children from joining inappropriate servers-as long as Discord’s content moderation can properly flag these communities and users choose to proactively self-designate. Now, servers that are marked as NSFW will automatically block minor users from joining them, an easy loophole discovered in our Dirty Dozen List research that allowed accounts as young as 13 years old to join pornography servers dedicated to trading non-consensual images, even if some of the individual channels were age-gated.
